One of my favorite places to visit in Texas is none other than Austin. My mom had an event to attend there for work for a couple of days so we decided extend the trip and make a mini vacation out of it. The last two times I went was for SXSW but this time I really got the opportunity to explore the city and see so much without all the chaos and people everywhere that’s there during the music festival. From the food, to the art, to the chill vibes I absolutely loved it.
Wednesday
We got to our hotel that was located downtown on Wednesday and since our room wasn’t ready we decided to grab a bite to eat. Whenever I visit somewhere as cool as Austin, I always want to eat something different than the usual food and restaurants I always eat so this time was no different.
Our first stop was at Gloria’s Latin Cuisine right off 6th st. I had to spinach and cheese enchiladas (top plate) and my mom had the shrimp, chicken, and steak enchiladas. The food was soooo good. It was just what we needed to start out our trip.
Thursday
I began Thursday off with some fresh fruit, banana nut muffin, and other delights. After breakfast I laid in bed, watched a movie, and enjoyed doing absolutely nothing until my mom got done with her work event.
For dinner we decided to go to this highly rated bar and grill called Moonshines. We had popcorn for the free appetizer which I had never seen before. It was fresh, hot, buttery, and oh so good; and that was before the main course. Since I had ate at the hotel not too long before I ordered a small dish which was the corndog shrimp. Pretty self explanatory. Imagine a corndog but with shrimp instead. *licks lips* My mom got the catfish and grits. I’m picky about my grits and they did not disappoint.
After dinner we opted for the movies and seen Central Intelligence, you know the new movie with Kevin Hart and The Rock. We laughed the whole time.
Friday
Friday we headed out to see The Capital which was like 3 blocks away from out hotel, almost walking distance.
After walking around and enjoying the scenery the next stop was thrifting. I mean what would a good trip be without stopping at a few thrift and resale shops. Salvation Army was one of our stops where I bought a bag full of clothes for only $15.11. YASSS!!!!! The rest of our Friday included seeing the city and a little more shopping.
Saturday
The next stop to finger licking food was Kerbey Lane Cafe where we at for breakfast. We were told about this place from a friend and after looking them up, I knew we had to go. I got the fried chicken eggs Benedict and cinnamon roll pancakes. YES that’s what I said, cinnamon roll pancakes. I could of ate 2 more of them it was that freakin good.
After eating we headed to the Austin Zoo.
The zoo was rather small especially compared to the Houston Zoo but on the flip side it made the zoo more habitable and up close and personal.
After some more shopping and site seeing. Dinner time!
Since we were in Bear Cave, and area right outside of Austin, we decided to eat something in the area. I had the shrimp tacos at Chisco’s Grill. Now I can’t tell you what kind of glaze was on the shrimp but it was the best shrimp tacos I had ever had. It was kind of sweet but still a little spicy and oh so delicious once again.
Austin never disappoints when it comes to the food or the scenery. Check out Part 2 of my Austin trip for more.
