As I’m typing this up I just finished watching President Obama’s farewell speech to America (sad face) and I figured what perfect timing than any to present ‘What Would Michelle Do?’ that gave me so much aspiration and life lessons.
I’m all about progression and continuing to educate myself so what better way than to learn from strong women that I aspire to be like. Reading books was at the top of my 2016 New Year goals so in true Bianca form, 2017 will be the year to make this happen. As I’m reading these books I plan to share my thoughts and opinions in the hopes to encourage you all to read them too.
I bought this book a couple of years ago and never got past the second chapter until now. I know reading this two years ago would of never had the same impact on me as it has now. I’m in a totally different mind space and everything the author explained was everything I needed to hear.
No matter what your political views are you can’t help but love the soon to be former First Lady and everything she represents. From the magazine covers to the impeccable gowns she slays in every chance she gets, there will be no other. This is why it was prominent I finished this and took notes along the way. Mrs.Obama embodies style and elegance and in the book it took me along a journey of who Michelle is and a guide on how I can be the same.
My Take a Ways
I’ll start off with her and Barack’s relationship and what I learnt from that. When Barack decided to run for Senate, let’s just say Michelle wasn’t all to happy about this decision. This meant he would be gone a lot and she would left home a lot with the two girls alone. Through her doubts, Michelle supported her man and compromised so they could both have the careers they desired. Obviously she made the right decision.
Talk about #relationshipgoals
Bottom line: Support and Compromise is key
Everything you need to know about being elegant, ambitious, a loving spouse, and even a great friend was broken down with guidance and a behind the scenes look into how Michelle has done this all. The chapter on careers was the topic that grabbed my attention the most. Maybe because of my transitional stage I’m currently in or the extra motivation I needed but it was like every word spoke to me. One paragraph that stood out the most was about networking to your dreams. Part of my 2017 resolution was just that and I can say I’m off to a good start already.
There was countless tips and lessons I learned while reading this and it helped me truly understood how and why she is who she is.
Another big tip that resonated with me, “Stand out in a crowded world”. I can go on and on about what I’ve learned and how this book has taken my ambition to the next level but I’ll stop here. If you need an easy read that will help take your life in a new direction, check it out. Until than I’ll end the post with a quote from the book.
‘Your journey to womanhood won’t be easy, fun, or fair, but you’ll find it’s worthwhile in the end. Just like Michelle did.’
