This post is for the girls who may need a little push in the right direction when it comes to the fashion department. For some of us putting outfits together and shopping is almost second nature but for others, this may be easier said than done so for them I have a few simple tips that I’ve learned along the way.
1. Don’t overthink your outfit
I think we all do this. Some of the most simple and quickest looks we throw on end up being the best and most complimented. A simple t-shirt and jeans or a little black dress can go a long way. We put so much thought and effort into what we want to wear that it can become so frustrating. I hate those days when I’m standing in front my closet for 10 minutes hating everything in my closet and swearing I have nothing to wear. Along the years I learned this first tip and have been using it faithfully. Whatever outfit comes first to mind is typically what I’m wearing that day. It’s that easy.
2. Quality Over Quantity (sometimes)
Me being a huge thrifter, that’s where the sometimes part came in. I love the fact that I can go into a resale shop or thrift store and buy a bag full of clothes for like $100. Besides that, this tip isn’t anything new or unheard of. My generation suffers from this problem. We focus on the trendy clothes but don’t think about long term. I shop so much differently now than I did a few years ago. I now ask myself questions like, “Can I wear this 2 years from now?”, “How many different ways can I wear this?”, How many times can I wear this?”, I think u get the point. I want pieces that will last, that won’t go out of style tomorrow, and won’t tear the first time I wash it. Now even though I’m saying this, I still buy trendy pieces, just not at high prices.
3. Find Your Personal Style
Probably one of the hardest parts about dressing is finding your own style. Sometimes I still suffer with this. My style changes everyday. Sometimes I may feel edgy, the next I may be feeling super girly. It’s a huge world and fashion is everywhere. My advice on finding your style and what you want to look like is to use inspiration by looking at magazines, blogs, and social media such as Pinterest (my fav), and Instagram. After doing this, find what you like and incorporate the looks you love into your personal style and what you feel represents you.
4. Don’t Be Afraid To Step Outside the Box
We all have our comfort zones but there is far to much fashion and fun clothes to not experiment. I’m all about trying different things whether it’s fashion, food, or whatever. If you began to feel bored with your everyday style, try something new. Buy something different. Switch the style up. It’s that simple.
5. BE YOURSELF
My last tip is my favorite. We get so caught up in comparing ourselves to others that we forget to be ourselves. With social media and everything thats going on these days, it’s so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing and what everyone else looks like but when it all comes down to it, you can only be yourself and truly love who that person is. If you like wearing tennis shoes more than heels, go for it. Fashion is all about self expression!
