My 2017 year has been made. Going to New York Fashion Week was something I dreamed of in the far future. If you would of told me this time last year that I would attend the biggest event for fashionistas world wide, I would of laughed.
When the opportunity was presented I instantly hopped on board. A blogger and now good friend that goes every year wanted to put a group together. For obvious reasons, the more people the less the room would be by dividing up the cost so it made sense. Let me tell you, I lived!
Shortly after beginning the planning stage, I lost my job. I didn’t know how I would make it and even a couple of times I almost canceled. Not wanting to feel defeated and wanting to keep pushing despite life’s shitty temporary moment, I made it happen.
I wasn’t sure how I wanted to separate the post so I decided to break down my post by days 1-2 and days 3-6 and have separate post for my favorite looks so I hope you enjoy.
Day 1
When I tell Day 1 was one of the craziest days I’ve ever experienced. We had two flights leaving out Wednesday. One from Houston to Dallas, a quick layover, than from Dallas to New York . Our layover in Dallas was supposed to be for 45 minutes but due to our first flight in Houston being delayed, we were super behind. As soon as we landed in Dallas, our next flight was already boarding. We literally had to run through airport to the gate like we were in a movie and made the fight by four minutes.
Next crazy moment: Displaced luggage. On the plane ride to NY my friend and I were joking about how crazy it would be for the airport to loose someone’s luggage during Fashion Week. Like the tragedy and dramatics of it all would make it so awful. Now fast forward through a rough flight due to the rain that freaked me out and now to baggage claim. I get a call saying my luggage was going to be delayed. The panicking and anger began. I was told because of unsure reasons, they put my luggage on the next flight and that it would arrive in about two hours. Mind you my friend and I checked in at the same time and hers came in on time. Tired and aggravated we sat in the airport, ate some unpleasant food, and waited. Luckily my luggage had arrived on schedule and all was well again.
Third crazy moment: roughing it the first night. Since everybody wasn’t coming the first day we decided to get a separate hotel for the first night that would be less expensive for the five of us. We arrived to a hotel ducked off in a alley looking street (true New York shit). We walked into a room the size of my bedroom, probably smaller, and a suspicious looking restroom. Fitting five girls with hella luggage, no space, and questionable cleanliness was a true example of roughing it. We complained the whole time, compared it to he movie Girls Trip (even though we didn’t have a fine man come save us), laughed it off, and made it work.
Quick story. I’ve never experienced anything more crazy then New York uber drivers. The first uber driver we ordered cussed at my friend on the phone, sped up and did dry breaks in front the hotel, and looked at us crazy. Not knowing if we wanted to hop in the car with this delirious person, I guess we took too long to walk to the car so he rolled up the window and sped off. We had so many issues with the uber drivers, not all but many, the entire trip it was crazy. Like why y’all so mad?!
After a rough beginning we made the night by having dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe by Times Square and toasting to a better rest of the trip.
Day 2
The second day started off with a bang with me attending my very first NYFW show. The show was titled Indonesian Diversity which featured six Indonesian designers. It was nothing short of amazing.
The rest of day included us indulging in the full NYC experience by enjoying some good ass pizza, a little Times Square shopping and touring, eating at Nobu where we seen Swizz Beats, then partying at a NYFW hosted event at a basement bar.
