Beauty Confessions: Why I Will Never Get Eyelash Extensions Again
There’s a certain something full and long eyelashes add to your face. It’s like icing to the cake. They just make your face look that much better makeup or no makeup. Adding extensions to the mix instantly brings the good kind of drama I was looking for.
I alway had pretty average length eyelashes. Not too thick and not that long. I wasn’t much into wearing a lot of makeup so I knew eyelash extensions could give me that type of ‘umph’ I was looking for. My curiosity led me to Groupon where I found a shop with great reviews and even better prices. I called, booked my appointment, and was ready to go.
I wasn’t sure of the process but it wasn’t bad at all. You lay on your back on the table with your eyes closed and they place the individual lash on, one by one. I would listen to my music and sometimes even fall asleep. After about 45 minutes, it was over.
After my first session, let me tell you my eyes were poppin! I was getting compliments because they looked so natural. You couldn’t tell me nothing. The only con was that the individual lashes would easily fall off especially after taking off my makeup and washing my face. Every 2-3 weeks for about 3 months I would go for my touch up. I hated spending that money that I knew could of went towards so many other things but I felt like my lashes were worth it.
I soon began to evaluate my budget and realized paying every 2-3 weeks for something like eyelashes was no longer necessary. I figured once I get on my Carrie Bradshaw and Being Mary Jane status, I could go back to that but for now I decided I needed my coins more than my lashes. A few swipes of Maybeline mascara was gone have to do the trick for now. It’s what we call ‘adulting’.
Once I made the decision, I decided the let the individual extensions fall off naturally. As the weeks went by, 4 to be exact, I decided the wipe the remainder off by wetting my face and pulling gently (it didn’t take much). I don’t know that I expected or what I had been thinking or even seeing but once I was done, there was NOTHING! My eyelids were bald. Like nothing there but tiny pieces of hair I guess you can call eyelashes that I could barely see.
I never knew the process it took to put them on but I damn sure didn’t think it involved them taking off my own. The very reason I was getting extensions was to accentuate my own eyelashes and now I’m worse then where I began. The travesty of it all! I literally wore my prescription glasses everyday for about 2 months straight until my lashes fully grew back.
Full disclosure: I’ve talked to several other people who’ve gotten extensions and out of all, one shared my same experience. I just wanted to share my eyelash extension story of what I thought was nothing, to popping eyelashes, to being bald, and then having to start over.
