So obviously it’s been a while since I’ve posted but for good reason. Life always seems to slap you in the face right when things seem to be going well and that’s exactly what happened to me. To make a long story short, I lost my job at the end of February and with everything going on, blogging just wasn’t a main priority.
Fortunately with the right people around me and the many opportunities coming along, I’ve been so motivated, inspired, and ready to get back to it! I first want to mention how important networking really is. After meeting a few ladies from events I attended and us vibing so well, the five of us came up with the great idea to start a group where we could host events and connect with other bloggers and fashionable women; hence the name BlogNConnect. I’m super excited about everything we’re working on and can’t wait to share more.
O yea and I have to mention the Cocktails with Claire X Ty Hunter event I just attended. If you don’t know who Claire Sulmers is let me just sum it up real quick. She began as writer and editor in New York city and in 2006 started FashionBombDaily which shows celebrity fashion, street style, and more. I’ve been reading Fashion Bomb since I was in college, years ago. She’s someone who used her style, blog, and business skills to build a successful and long career in the fashion industry. I always admired her work and being able to follow her growth inspired me so much. Blogging takes a lot of time, money, and effort and a lot of people don’t even get why we do it so it’s always great to hear other bloggers success stories.
She’s been doing Cocktails with Claire for years and I’ve been patiently waiting for her to bring it to Houston. I was so excited to attend the event and meet her.
I also was able to meet the Ty Hunter. Yes I said ‘the’.
Hunter is from Austin, Tx and many years ago decided to move to Houston. He worked at several stores in the Galleria, happen to meet Tina Knowles, and soon became Beyonce’s stylist. That was the short version. Doing the panel at Cocktails with Claire he talked a lot about the risk he took and the hard work to get where he is. Being able to style Beyonce for years and years was enough for me to take mental notes.
So in conclusion networking is the key to whatever you’re trying to do. I wouldn’t have met other bloggers and been able to be a part of a group that can now inspire others to work together and collaborate. Ty met Tina by networking while he was working in the mall. See how that works. You never know who you will meet and what can you learn from them and what opportunities can come from it.
